Being a picture book, Where the Wild Things Are has minimal text with beautiful illustrations used in the storytelling. It is about a boy who causes havoc in his home after wearing a wolf’s costume. As a punishment, his mom sends him to bed without any supper. However, later, a magical thing happens when his whole room gets transformed into a jungle and he finds himself on an awful island.
This is going to be the most frightening experience of Max’s life since the jungle is full of monstrous beasts. He calls these monsters ‘the Wild Things’, however, later, he learns to overcome his fear and can tame them as well. This leads to beasts respecting Max and to his surprise, they crown him their king. While he is enjoying the experience, soon he starts missing his home and wants to return.
When Max decides to return home, the Wild Things are not happy about this. He is not quite happy but homesickness overcame him so he returns home to the most surprising thing he could have expected. Well, Max discovers a delicious supper when he comes back to his room and forgets about everything he had been going through.
Where the Wild Things Are is one of the most successful pieces of art and media for children. It got adapted into various other projects, notably an animated series and a film of the same name.
