The Duff is based on the story of Bianca Piper who is suspicious and loyal. She has a group with her friends Casey Blithe and Jessica Gaither named The Nest. One night at the club, her friends, Casey and Jessica go dancing where Wesley Rush, one of their classmates, also tags along. He has a pure heart and a good reputation in front of women. Wesley finds her in a club for spending some time with him.
Wesley wants to meet Bianca to explain that other girls feel jealous when he is talking to her because she is the Duff, Designated Ugly Fat Friend. Due to this meeting, she will bring another, more attractive woman to him. She is disgusted by him and starts finding her friends to leave the club immediately. On a very particular day, Bianca approaches Wesley and kisses him to distract herself from her problems.
The Duff received the best reviews because of the story that Keplinger wrote on Bianca “the Duff” and her great loyalty towards her friends. Amanda Tew, while complimenting the book, said that I love Bianca’s character and the chemistry she shared with Wesley and her friends. Keplinger warned that it’s a little heavy on sexual content and gives a bad idea to younger girls about opposite behavior.
