Slaughterhouse-House Five Review:

This novel brings us the story of Billy Pilgrim who is an American soldier. You have to admit to being somewhat baffled by the acclaim Slaughterhouse-Five has received over the years. Sure, the story is interesting. It has a fascinating and mostly successful blend of tragedy and comic relief. And yes, the fractured structure and time-traveling element must have been quite novel and original back in the day.

The story of Slaughterhouse-Five is an unusual one. First of all, it is not told in a linear order. You will have to guess much of it from the flashbacks and recurring events. There are also time travel sequences in the book which reveal a big portion of the tale. Also, the story has an unreliable narrator who is telling his experience as a student. He is studying in the anthropology department at the University of Chicago.

What Billy learns from these creatures is that each traumatic event that has happened in his life fits very precisely into a state of meticulous nature. It has always happened and always will happen and so it goes. What Billy Pilgrim truly experiences over and over in his life is Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Slaughterhouse-Five has a Goodreads user score of 4.08. The novel is the recipient of many awards and nominations. According to the Modern Liberty list, it is ranked among the 100 best novels of all time.
