In the beginning, he is not sure what he is looking for, however, is sure that this search would take him somewhere big. But, any difficult journey can become easier if a good friend is beside you and Siddhartha has Govinda. On their journey, Siddhartha goes through a lot of hardships to achieve his goal.
Some of the things he does include fasting, giving up on personal possessions, and most importantly, his home. Buddha is referred to as Gautama in the book and both friends are looking forward to finding and meeting him. And when they finally meet him, it seems like a dream come true since Buddha is more than what they had first thought.
