We have all heard of ‘His Dark Materials’, which is certainly one of the best recent TV series produced. Well, this show is based on Philip Pullman’s fantasy book of the same name. La Belle Sauvage comes from the pen of this talented writer, and its story is set twelve years after the events of ‘His Dark Material’. However, the world and lore that these books share are the same.
La Belle Sauvage is also recognized as The Book of Dust #1; it is because it is the first of The Book of Dust trilogy. Malcolm Polstead is the kind of boy who notices everything but is not much noticed himself. And so perhaps it was inevitable that he would become a spy.
Malcolm’s father runs an inn called the Trout, on the banks of the River Thames, and all of Oxford passes through its doors. Malcolm and his dæmon, Asta, routinely overhear news and gossip, and the occasional scandal, but during a winter of unceasing rain, Malcolm catches wind of something new: intrigue.
La Belle Sauvage remained one of the most hyped books before its publishing and we are glad to say that it lived up to the hype. It was worth the wait, receiving positive reviews, and readers loved the book. La Belle Sauvage has a user score of 4.15 out of 5 on Goodreads.
