Gilead (Novel) Review:

The story of Gilead revolves around a pastor who lives in a small town Gilead and comes to a realization that he might soon die of a heart condition. Gilead is a fictional autobiography in which Reverend John Ames is the main character. The story has been told in a way that it takes the form a memoir and journal, however, having a single narrative throughout the book.

When John Ames comes to this realization of his possible death soon, he decides to share his legacy with his son and tells him the stories of father and grandfather who including him were Congregationalist pastors. In passing down his legacy, Ames tries to give his son a realization of the duties he will be inheriting, their importance, and how he should ignore every negative finger that is being lifted towards him.

The fictional town Gilead’s inspiration has been taken from a real-life town of Tabor, Iowa, and has received critical reception from all reading circles. It has been rated 3.8 out of 5 on the Goodreads and is a recommendation that we must make for the fans of fiction.
