Gabriel Wyner’s book Fluent Forever: How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It is a detailed guide on learning any language using special memory techniques. Wyner himself is multilingual, speaking six languages, and he has designed his system to apply to any language.
The book starts with an overview of the science of memory and then moves on to practical tips for building a strong foundation in any language. For example, Wyner recommends associating new vocabulary with vivid images to create long-term memories. He also advocates taking an immersion approach to learning, whereby learners are constantly exposed to the target language through listening, reading, writing, and speaking practice.
While I found the book to be well-organized and informative, I did not personally agree with all of Wyner’s suggestions. For instance, I think that his emphasis on creating detailed mental pictures may work well for some people but could be overwhelming for others. Overall, though, I would recommend this book to anyone serious about learning a new language.
