This novel was the first attempt of Mark Twain in writing Historical Fiction. The plot features 16th century England in which a young boy Tom Canty lives with his poor family in Offal Court, London. Tom aspires for a better life and learns to read and write from a priest. One day while wandering around in the Palace, he meets Prince Edward VI. Both of them are amazed by their resemblance and decide to switch places of each other. After that the novel mentions how both of them face difficulties as a result of their switching places. This novel have been adopted into many films from time to time.
