Mansfield Park is the third novel of Jane Austen which was first published in 1814. The novel tells story of Fanny Price, a girl from an overburdened family, sent at age of 10 to live with her rich aunt’s family. The novel was well received by public at the time of publishing. The story starts by marriages of three sisters. The third sister is married to a marine lieutenant who is retired after sometime and thus is unable to cover the expenses of his 9 children. So his wife, Mrs. Price requests her rich sister Lady Bertram to take care of one of her children. So, Mrs. Bertram decided to take Fanny Price, the eldest child, to take with herself. And so the story of Fanny’s life goes on.

Jane Austen was an English novelist known primarily for her six novels.  Most of her work is based on British landed gentry at the end of 18th century.

Mansfield Park is Jane Austen’s 4th novel. Post-20th Century critics consider this novel as Jane Austen’s most controversial work. It briefly mentions slave trade of the British and mentions Sir Thomas, the uncle of Fanny Price, having plantations in West Indies. It is bildungsroman featuring the life of Fanny Price.
